The morning sun stretched its golden fingers over the city, painting the sky in hues of lavender and rose. It was just another day, yet something about it felt different—charged, expectant, like the world was holding its breath for something unspoken.

Samiksha woke up to the sound of her alarm blaring, but for once, she didn’t snooze it. She lay still, staring at the ceiling, her mind replaying the way Abeer had whispered in her ear . 'And for their particular gorgeous student…'

Her lips curled into a sleepy smile before she buried her face into her pillow.

This wasn’t fair.

She was a hopeless case, wasn’t she? A girl who knew the boy she liked was just out of reach yet still leaned a little closer every time.

With a sigh, she got up, but instead of her usual laziness, there was a strange excitement buzzing in her veins. She didn’t know why, but she had this feeling—something was going to happen today.

By the time she reached school, she was already searching for him. She told herself she wasn’t, but she was.

And then—there he was.

Abeer.

Leaning against the staircase railing, lost in thought, looking devastatingly good in school uniform . The moment her eyes landed on him, he turned—as if he had felt her presence before even seeing her.

Their gazes locked.

It was nothing.

Just a second, a glance, a moment too small to mean anything.

But why did it feel like everything?

Samiksha gulped, willing her heart to behave. Just as she was about to turn away, he smiled—a slow, lazy, knowing smile.

And she tripped.

Not metaphorically. Literally.

She would have face-planted right there in the corridor if Abeer hadn’t reached out, grabbing her wrist at the last second.

“Wow,” he said, steadying her, his voice laced with amusement. “Do I make you this nervous, or are you just naturally clumsy?”

Samiksha opened her mouth to respond, but her brain short-circuited, and all she managed was:

“Uh…yes.”

Abeer chuckled, letting go of her hand.

“Well, that clears everything up.”

She groaned internally. This is why I should not be allowed to interact with him before my brain wakes up.

In another corner of the school, Vidyut sat in an empty classroom, staring at the blank page of his notebook.

He had tried writing it down a hundred times.

His feelings.

His stupid, uncontrollable, completely irrational feelings for Aarohi.

But every time he did, his hands betrayed him.

What was the point? He couldn’t tell her.

Because what if she didn’t feel the same? What if it ruined everything?

What if Abeer found out?

His best friend. His brother in everything but blood.

Would he see it as a betrayal?

Vidyut shut his eyes, taking a deep breath.

He knew what love felt like.

It felt like longing.

Like wanting to say something but swallowing it instead.

Like watching someone from across the room and wishing they would just look at you once.

It felt like almosts and what-ifs.

And he was tired of them.

He pulled out his phone and, before he could overthink, typed a message to Aarohi.

Vidyut: Hey, do you believe in fate?

Her reply came instantly.

Aarohi: Fate? As in, the “everything happens for a reason” type?

Vidyut: Yeah. That.

Aarohi: I don’t know. Why?

Vidyut: Just wondering if you think some people are meant to meet. Meant to be.

A pause.

Then—

Aarohi: Maybe. But I think people choose to be in each other’s lives. Fate might bring them together, but what happens after that? That’s up to them.

Vidyut stared at her words, something heavy pressing against his chest.

Maybe this was fate.

But what if he finally chose to do something about it?

Later that evening, Ekansh was waiting outside Avya’s workplace. He didn’t have a bouquet today, just a single daisy in his hands.

When she walked out and saw him, she smiled.

“Only one flower today?” she teased.

He shrugged. “Quality over quantity.”

She took the flower, twirling it between her fingers.

“Want to walk?” he asked.

Avya nodded, falling into step beside him.

For the first few minutes, they didn’t talk, just listened to the sounds of the city around them. But then—

“I like this,” Avya admitted softly.

Ekansh turned to her. “Like what?”

“This… whatever this is. Us.”

Ekansh grinned. “You mean our totally casual, absolutely-not-romantic walks where I just happen to bring you flowers every day?”

She laughed. “Yeah. That.”

Ekansh stopped walking, turning to face her.

“What if we stop pretending?” he asked. “What if we just… let this be whatever it wants to be?”

Avya hesitated. “And what if we don’t work out?”

Ekansh smiled. “Then at least we tried.”

Avya looked at him for a long moment before slipping her hand into his.

“Okay,” she whispered.

Ekansh squeezed her hand. “Okay.”

And just like that, something new began.
