Samiksha slumped back in her chair, stretching her arms above her head with a satisfied sigh. Finally. Exams were over. No more last-minute cramming, no more guilty distractions. Now she could waste time recklessly without feeling like she was committing a crime.
But at that moment, something else was more importantâfood.
Dosa, idli, sambhar, chutney chutney⌠Dosa, idli, sambhar, chutney chutneyâŚ
The craving hit her so hard that she blurted out, "Mumma, dosa khaane ka mann ho raha hai!"
Her mother walked over, patting her head like she was a child. "Beta, aaj toh nahi ho paayega. Aaj lauki bani hai."
Samikshaâs face fell instantly. "Mummy, fir se lauki?" she groaned dramatically, as if her entire world had just collapsed.
Her mom only smirked wickedly. "Haan haan, bas hari sabzi mat seekho khana. Tum log sirf bahar ka chhatar-pattar khaate raho."
Samiksha sulked, stabbing her roti with her fingers, as if that would somehow make the lauki more edible.
The dinner table was unusually quiet today, probably because only she and her parents were present. Vidyut was holed up in his room, and Avya was still at the office.
With a deep sigh, she picked up her spoon and took a reluctant bite.
This was not the dosa she had hoped for.
After sometime Vidyut and Samiksha were slumped on the couch, their bodies half-melted into the cushions, mindlessly scrolling through YouTube Shorts on the TV. Their parents had gone out for a walk, leaving the siblings in their usual lazy evening routineâendless scrolling, endless reels, and an occasional groan of frustration at the absurdity of the internet.
The same reel popped up again.
"Vartamaan aankhon ka dhoka haiâŚ"
Samiksha groaned loudly, rubbing her temples in exaggerated frustration. "Bas karo yaar! Yeh gaana sun sun ke thakk jaungi! Mera toh bhoot, vartamaan aur bhavishya⌠teeno hi mere saath dhoka kar rahe hain!" she whined like a dramatic crybaby.
Vidyut simply smirked but didnât bother responding. He was too engrossed in his own doom-scrolling.
Samiksha, however, wasnât just watching the TVâshe was watching him. Carefully observing his expressions, gauging his mood, waiting for the right moment to drop a bomb. Her fingers fidgeted with the hem of her hoodie as she hesitated. Then, in a voice way too sweet to be normal, she called out, "Vidyut bhaiyaâŚ"
Instantly, his brows shot up in suspicion.
"Bas kar bhai, seedhe point pe aa. Yeh tumhari sweetness mujhe zeher se bhi buri lagti hai," he said, narrowing his eyes.
She let out a nervous chuckle. Okay, okay, just say it, she told herself.
Taking a deep breath, she started her carefully planned approach.
"Dekh, jab tune mujhe bataya ki tu aur Aarohi date kar rahe ho, maine kuch bura bola?" she asked, tilting her head.
"No," Vidyut replied, still suspicious.
"Maine scene create kiya?"
"Nope."
"Aapko maara?"
"Nahi."
He squinted at her, catching on. "Samiksha⌠kya bolna hai?"
She gulped. Okay, here goes nothing.
"Main aur Abeer date kar rahe hain."
BOOM.
The moment the words left Samikshaâs mouth, the universeâbeing its usual dramatic selfâdecided to mess with her. Because right on the TV screen, a short popped up with the song blasting:
"Dushman na kare dost ne woh kaam kiya haiâŚ"
Samikshaâs eyes widened. Are you serious?! She lunged for the remote, but before she could mute itâ
Chaos erupted.
Vidyutâs expression froze for a second, and thenâ "KYA?!" His voice practically shook the walls.
Samiksha winced. Here we goâŚ
Vidyut shot up from the couch so fast that he almost tripped over the rug. "ABBEER?! Mera ABEER?!" His arms flailed dramatically. "Mujhe laga dushman mujhe dhoka dega, par yeh toh mera hi khoon hai jo mujhe kaat raha hai!"
"Are you even listening what you are saying?" Samiksha made an puking face at him.
The TV continued playing tragic betrayal songs in the background, making the situation even funnier.
"Bhai, relaxâ" Samiksha tried, but Vidyut was already in full Bollywood meltdown mode.
"NAHIIII!!!" He grabbed a cushion and threw it on the floor like he was in some intense saas-bahu serial. "Main kaise sochta ki mera dost hiâŚ" He dramatically put a hand on his chest, pretending to be in deep emotional pain.
Samiksha rolled her eyes. "Vidyut, tu overacting ke paise lega kya?"
"PAISE kya, main Abeer se apni dosti ka hisaab maangunga!" He declared, pacing back and forth.
Just then, the universe threw another plot twist. The TV, as if sensing the moment, blasted another reelâ
"Agar aap dhokha kha chuke hain, toh yeh gaana aapke liye haiâŚ"
Vidyut glared at the screen. "Mujhe pata hai TV! Band ho ja!" He yelled, grabbing the remote and furiously pressing buttons. The TV refused to cooperate.
Meanwhile, Samiksha just stood there, suppressing her laughter. "Bhai, ab itna bhi dhokha nahi diya, bas pyaar hi toh kiya hai."
Vidyut squinted at her. "Main tujhe maaf kar dunga, lekin ek shart pe."
"Kya?"
"Abeer mujhe har din free ka burger khilayega."
Samiksha groaned. "Tu bhi naâ"
"Aur coke bhi."
She threw a cushion at his face.
And thatâs how Vidyut âgracefullyâ accepted the relationshipâthrough blackmail.
"Aap mangaye bhai sahab?" She looked at him in disbelief.
"Ghussa toh mujhe bohot aa raha hai par kya karu khud bhi toh same hi kaam kar raha hun.... Isliye kuch bol bhi nahi sakta." He stated.
As soon as Samiksha stepped into her room, she was practically bouncing with excitement. New relationship energy was real, and she was living it. After all, her exams were finally over, and she could now focus on the one thing that had been on her mind 24/7âAbeer.
Ever since she had confessed, things had been chaotic with exams, and she had been strict about not letting him show up outside her house at odd hours. The last time he did, he caught a cold, and she had scolded him so much that even she felt bad afterward. But now? Now, she was free.
Humming a soft tune, she pushed the door shut behind her, leaning against it with a deep breath. A slow, dreamy blush crept onto her face as she thought about him.
Her eyes flickered to her phone, and there it wasâhis message staring right back at her.
"Call me when you're free, pretty please. I need it."
Her heart did a somersault.
Rolling her eyes but smiling like an idiot, she immediately tapped on his name. It barely rang twice before he picked up.
Abeer: "Finally!"
Samiksha chuckled, settling onto her bed. "Dramatic much?"
Abeer: "Excuse me, ma'am, but Iâve been suffering in your absence. The world is cruel. My heart? Shattered. My soul? Lost."
She giggled, biting her lip. "Such a poet."
Abeer: "Only for you."
Her breath hitched, but she quickly masked it with a sarcastic scoff. "Okay, okay, enough flirting. What do you need?"
Abeer: "You."
And just like that, her face was on fire.
Samikshaâs breath hitched for a split second before she narrowed her eyes. Oh, so he was in that mood today.
She tried to sound unaffected. âAbeer, be serious.â
Abeer: âI am serious.â
She rolled her eyes but couldnât stop the way her lips curled up. âAcha batao, what were you actually calling for?â
Abeer sighed dramatically. âI just wanted to hear your voice. Itâs been ages.â
Samiksha scoffed. âAges? Bhai, kal hi toh baat ki thi.â
Abeer: âKal? Kal feels like a different lifetime. You donât get it, Samiksha, Iâm a man in love. Time moves slower for me.â
Her heart flipped. "Shut up, you're so cheesy."
Abeer: "And yet you love it."
She bit her lip. Of course, she did.
Abeer: "Anyway, since exams are over... Let's go on a date tomorrow."
Samiksha hummed in thought. âHmm, date? Whatâs in it for me?â
Abeer: âA breathtaking experience with the most charming man youâll ever meet.â
Samiksha snorted. âOh wow, youâre so humble.â
Abeer: âFor you? Always.â
She sighed, pretending to think. "Fine, but if itâs boring, Iâm making you pay for my next three pani puris.â
Abeer: âDeal. But it won't be boring. Iâll make sure you have the best time ever.â
Samiksha smiled, warmth blooming in her chest. "Okay, I'm looking forward to it then."
Abeer: "Good. Now tell me... did you miss me at least a little?"
She rolled her eyes playfully but admitted in a soft voice, âMaybe a little.â
Abeer: âA little? Just a little?â
Samiksha chuckled. "Thoda zyada bhi."
Abeer grinned through the phone. âThatâs my girl.â
And damn. Her heart fluttered once again.
She felt something at those words something deep in her stomach, something warm, something dangerously close to love.
But instead of acknowledging it, she quickly said, "Okay, okay, enough flirting. Sleep now. It's late."
Abeer: "One last thing."
Samiksha: "What?"
Abeer: âI love you.â
Silence.
Her heart pounded, her fingers clutching the bedsheet. A slow, shy smile formed on her lips.
Samiksha: "...Goodnight, Abeer."
Abeer chuckled. "Goodnight, meri pyaari bachii."
Aahhhh this guy.
And as she ended the call, she buried her face into her pillow, blushing like crazy.
As soon as she hung up, Samiksha stared at her phone, biting her lip. Her heart was still doing somersaults from Abeerâs I love you, but she had something else to tell him too. Something that might make him very interested.
Without thinking too much, she called him back.
Abeer picked up almost immediately. "Missed me already?"
She rolled her eyes, but her lips curled into a smile. "Shut up. I have something to tell you."
Abeer: "Hmm. Is it that youâve finally accepted that youâre obsessed with me?"
Samiksha: "Abeer."
Abeer: "Fine, fine. Tell me."
She took a deep breath, unable to contain her excitement. "I told Vidyut about us."
There was silence for a second. Thenâ
Abeer: "YOU WHAT?!"
She pulled the phone away from her ear at his dramatic outburst. "Calm down!"
Abeer: "Calm down?! Are you insane?! How is he still alive? How am I still alive?"
Samiksha: "Drama queen."
Abeer: "No, Samiksha. You donât understand. Vidyut is your overprotective, slightly psycho brother. Heâs the same guy who threatened to break Karanâs nose in seventh grade just because he pulled your ponytail."
Samiksha giggled at the memory. "Okay, first of all, that was justified. Karan was annoying. Second, I promise, he took it well."
Abeer: "...Define âwell.â"
She bit back a smile. "He didnât kill me. Or you."
Abeer: "Wow. Such high standards weâre celebrating."
Samiksha laughed. "You shouldâve seen his face though. I built up the suspense so much before telling him. He was already on edge, and the second I said 'Me and Abeer are dating,' BOOM."
Abeer: "Oh god, what happened?"
Samiksha: "The universe decided to mess with me. Right when I said it, a stupid reel played on TVââDushman na kare dost ne woh kaam kiya hai...â"
Abeer wheezed.
Abeer: "NO WAYâ"
Samiksha: "YES WAY. And he just stared at me like I had personally betrayed him."
Abeer was full-on laughing now, the sound making her heart do that stupid fluttering thing again.
Abeer: "Please tell me he at least tried to be supportive."
Samiksha: "Pfft, supportive? The first thing he said was something like 'Samiksha, tu mujhe dhoka de sakti hai par mere dost se pyaar karegi? Ye nahi ho sakta!'"
Abeer was gasping for breath. "Oh my god. Yeh paagal hai."
Samiksha: "I know! Then he started listing all my past âdumb decisionsâ and was like âaur ek aur add kar lo, Abeer se relationship!â"
Abeer: "Excuse me?! I am the best decision of your life."
Samiksha: "Yeah, yeah. Anyway, after his dramatic speech, he kind of just sighed and said, 'Agar kabhi tu rote hue mere paas aayi na uski wajah se toh mein usko zinda gaad dunga.'"
Abeer gulped. "Okay. Um. Noted."
Samiksha smirked. "Scared?"
Abeer: "Pfft, no." Pause. "âŚOkay, maybe a little."
She giggled. "Donât worry, I told him you treat me well. He just rolled his eyes and said, 'Agar tu khush hai toh thik hai, but agar ye mujhe jijaji bulaane bolega na, toh main maar dunga.'"
Abeer: "âŚChallenge accepted."
Samiksha: "ABEERâ"
Abeer: "Câmon, Samiksha. I have to. Imagine his face when I walk in one day and say, âKaise ho, saale sahab?â"
Samiksha snorted. "Heâll disown me."
Abeer: "Worth it."
She laughed, shaking her head. "Youâre impossible."
Abeer: "And you love it."
Her heart flipped.
She stayed silent for a second, then cleared her throat. "Okay, enough nonsense. Sleep now."
Abeer: "One last thing."
Samiksha: "What now?"
Abeer: "I love you."
Her breath caughtâagain.
And yet, the warmth that spread through her was just as intoxicating as the first time.
Samiksha: "...Goodnight, Abeer."
Abeer chuckled. "Youâll say it back one day, Ms. Maheshwari. Just wait."
She blushed furiously and hung up.
And then she buried her face into her pillow, giggling like an idiot.
The next day
Samiksha sat at her desk, tapping her fingers anxiously against the table, her eyes flickering to the classroom door every few seconds. She knew the bomb was about to explode any moment now. There was no way Vidyut would've kept this to himself. Aarohi had to know by now.
And just as expected, the moment Aarohi entered, her eyes immediately landed on Samiksha.
Samiksha took a deep breath. Here we go.
"AUR MADAM NE SOCHA MUJHE NAHI BATAYENGI?!" Aarohi stormed toward her, eyes blazing.
Samiksha tried to play it cool. "Uh... good morning?"
Aarohi scoffed dramatically. "GOOD MORNING, MY FOOT! TUNE VIDYUT KO BATA DIYA AUR MUJHE NAHI?! MUJHE?! SHARAM NAHI AAYI?!"
Samiksha winced. "Listen, I was going to tell youâ"
Aarohi gasped so loudly that half the class turned to look. "TUNE SOCH BHI RAKHA THA KI TUJHE MUJHE NAHI BATANA CHAHIYE?! OH MY GOD, THE BETRAYAL."
Samiksha groaned. "I was waiting for the right time!"
Aarohi rolled her eyes. "Right time?! RIGHT TIME?! Samiksha, tu pehle se bhi pehle bata sakti thi!"
Samiksha muttered under her breath, "Tu waise bhi aise hi react karti..."
Aarohi grabbed her shoulders and shook her. "YOU ARE DATING ABEER AND YOU DIDNâT EVEN TELL ME?!"
Samiksha said"AAAHH STOP SHAKING ME!!"
Aarohi huffed and let go, folding her arms. "Agar aaj bhaiya ke saath aayi hoti na, toh school se pehle unki class bhi laga deti!"
Samiksha facepalmed. "Aarohi, pleaseâ"
But Aarohi wiggled her eyebrows mischievously. "But I am happy for you. Also, ABHI TAK TUNE DETAILS NAHI DIYE."
Samiksha sighed. Mujhe pata tha yeh hoga.
Aarohi slammed her books on the desk and sat beside her. "Chal, shuru ho ja. Kaise hua? Pehle kiska proposal tha? Kitna romantic tha? DETAILS, MAHESHWARI ji, DETAILS!"
Samiksha blushed, looking down at her hands. "Uh... well..."
Aarohi squealed so loudly that a few students turned to stare. "OH MY GOD, TU SHARMA RAHI HAI. I CANâT BELIEVE THIS."
Samiksha groaned. "Shut up, shut up, shut up!"
Aarohi dramatically clutched her heart. "I CANNOT. I AM TOO EMOTIONAL RIGHT NOW."
Samiksha laughed despite herself. "Aarohi, tu kabhi normal bhi reh sakti hai?"
Aarohi grinned. "Jab tu mujhe sab kuch bata degi."
Samiksha sighed. There was no escaping this.
And so, with a flushed face, she started telling her best friend everything.
As the school got over Aarohi stood outside the school, her eyes scanning the road as she waited for Vidyut. The soft breeze played with her hair, and she sighed, checking her phone.
Where is he?
Just then, warm fingers gently tugged at her braid from behind. "Missed me?"
Aarohi turned with a start, only to find Vidyut grinning at her, his eyes twinkling with mischief. She rolled her eyes, pretending to be unimpressed. "Not even a little."
Vidyut gasped dramatically. "Ouch. My fragile heart."
She laughed softly, shaking her head. "You're late."
He shrugged. "Uh yaar woh physics wale sir ne rok liya tha. And also, I got distracted thinking about you."
Aarohi paused, her lips parting slightly. She wasn't used to this Vidyut the one who threw out compliments like they were the most natural thing in the world.
"Shut up," she muttered, looking away, but her cheeks betrayed her.
Vidyut chuckled. "Why do you always act like you don't like hearing sweet things from me?"
"Because I don't!" she argued, crossing her arms.
"Hmm." He stepped closer, looking at her intently. "Then why are your ears turning red?"
Aarohi gasped and immediately slapped her hands over them. "Vidyut!"
He laughed, taking her hands and pulling them down gently. "Okay, okay. I'll stop teasing."
She pouted. "Good."
But then, Vidyut suddenly reached out and tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear, his fingers lingering for a second longer than necessary. "You look cute when you pout, though."
Aarohi's heart flipped, and she quickly looked away, pretending to scold him. "Stop flirting!"
"But I like flirting with you." He grinned.
She huffed. "You're impossible."
"And you're adorable." He winked.
Aarohi groaned, covering her face. "You're so annoying."
Vidyut only smiled, watching her fondly. "Yeah, yeah. But I'm your favorite annoying person, right?"
She peeked at him through her fingers, her lips curving into a small, shy smile.
"Maybe."
Samiksha hadnât seen Abeer the whole day, but it was fineâsheâd meet him at their date later. Just the thought of it made her heart flutter. Humming a tune, she entered her home, greeted her mom cheerfully, and plopped down onto the couch, stretching her arms with a happy sigh.
But thenâsomething felt off.
A sticky, wet sensation settled uncomfortably down her core, making her freeze.
Her brain short-circuited. No. No, no, no. This better not beâ
âShit.â
She sprang up in panic. Shit. Shit. Shit.
Dashing toward the washroom, she fumbled with the door, her heartbeat racing. And the moment she checkedâthere it was. Red.
Her period had come early. On her date day.
She groaned, face-palming. Now everything made senseâthe weird aching in her legs and back that sheâd ignored all morning, the slight irritation creeping up on her for no reason. She shouldâve known.
Now, instead of dressing up and going out with Abeer, sheâd be curled up with a hot water bottle, fighting cramps.
Defeated, she dragged herself back to the living room. âMummy, periods aa gaye.â
Her mother, who was cutting fruits in the kitchen, gave her an understanding nod. âOhh.â
Samiksha sighed heavily. âMujhe kuch nahi khana.â Without waiting for a response, she sulked off to her room, flopping onto the bed.
Her chirpy excitement had officially been murdered.
Samiksha was this close to crying.
"AAHHHHH!" she groaned, burying her face into her pillow. Why did this always happen to her? Everything she was excited about, everything she had plannedâpoof, gone. Now, she didnât even have the energy to be sad about it. The cramps were making sure of that.
With a heavy heart, she grabbed her phone and texted Abeer.
Samiksha: hey
On the other hand, Abeer was practically cursing himself for not meeting her at school today. But it was okayâheâd make up for it at their date. Excitedly, he got up to get ready when his phone buzzed.
Abeer: hey, sab thik?
Samiksha: kuch nahi theek hai mujhe rona aa raha hai
She tossed her phone aside, curling up into a ball as another wave of cramps hit her. Two minutes later, when she reached for her phone again, her eyes widened.
20 texts from Abeer.
"ARE YOU OKAY?"
"KYA HOGYA?"
"BTAOOOO"
"MUJHE TENSION HO RAHI HAII"
"PLEASE BTAOOO"
"IS EVERYTHING ALRIGHT"
Samiksha let out a soft laugh despite herself. Her heart melted a little at his concern. She quickly typed back.
Samiksha: calm down, my boy. It's just that I got my periods.
Abeer, who had been sitting on the edge of his couch, let out a dramatic ufff and leaned back, relieved.
Abeer: ufff finally saans aayi
A few seconds later, another message popped up.
Abeer: pehle batana tha na madam ke periods chal rahe hai, ab toh pura princess treatment milega.
Samikshaâs lips curled up at that.
Samiksha: princess treatment? Yeh kya hota hai?
Of course, she knew what it meant. But no one had ever done it for her before.
And then, to her absolute horror and delight, Abeer literally Googled it.
Noâscratch that. He didnât just Google it. He actually asked ChatGPT and sent her the whole damn prompt.
Abeer:
"Princess treatment" refers to treating someone with extra care, love, and affectionâlike they're royalty. It involves pampering them, making them feel special, and prioritizing their comfort and happiness.
For example, in relationships, it can mean:
Checking up on them frequently.
Surprising them with their favorite things.
Carrying their bag or opening doors for them.
Giving them forehead kisses and hugs.
Offering comfort and support when theyâre feeling down.
Protecting them and making sure they always feel safe.
B
asically, it's about making someone feel cherished and adored in the sweetest way possible!
She wheezed with laughter, shaking her head at his antics.
Samiksha: You're unreal.
Abeer: Nahi madam, isme ek cheez kam hai.
Samiksha: Kya?
A few seconds passed before his next message came through.
Abeer: Bohot saara pyaar.
Heat rushed to her cheeks as she stared at the words, her stomach fluttering despite the cramps.
Damn it. How was she supposed to sulk properly when he was this sweet?
Samiksha stretched her arms as she ended her conversation with Abeer, a small smile still playing on her lips. Even though her cramps were making her miserable, his words had managed to lighten her mood a little.
With a sigh, she decided to fetch her hot water bag from the wardrobe. But as soon as she got up, her eyes fell on the deep red stains on her white bedsheet. Her heart stopped.
"Oh, fudge. Oh, fudge. OH, FUDGE!" she whisper-yelled, gripping her head in sheer panic.
Her eyes darted to the mirror, and to her absolute horror, she saw the same betrayal in the form of a giant red stain on her pants. "NO NO NO, NOT THE WHITE BEDSHEET!"
Now, how in the world was she supposed to tell her mother? And more importantly, how was she supposed to clean it when she could barely stand without doubling over in pain? She pressed her palms against her temples, feeling completely and utterly doomed.
Just as she was about to collapse on the bed in despair, a soft knock echoed from her balcony window.
Her entire body froze.
Okay. Maybe she imagined it. Maybe it was just the wind.
But then it came again. Knock. Knock.
Her breath hitched. Her panic doubled.
What the hell was that?!
Her brain immediately jumped to conclusionsâghost, intruder, some kind of weird bird?
Heart pounding, she gulped and took cautious steps toward the window. Slowly, hesitantly, she peeled back the curtains.
And there, casually leaning against the railing of her balcony, with a stupidly charming smile on his face, was none other thanâ
"Abeer?!" she whisper-shrieked.
Samiksha shook her head in disbelief, her heart still racing. "Abeer, what the actual hell?!" she whisper-yelled, glancing back at her door in panic.
Abeer just grinned, completely unbothered. "What? I knocked."
"On my balcony window!" she deadpanned. "Do you have any idea how creepy that is?!"
He shrugged lazily, leaning against the railing like he belonged there. "Creepy? No. Romantic? Absolutely."
She groaned, rubbing her temples. "You're impossible."
"And yet, you adore me," he shot back, his voice dripping with amusement.
Her lips twitched, but she forced herself to stay serious. "Abeer, why are you here? What if someone sees you?"
He tilted his head. "So? I'll wave."
She gasped. "You idiotâ"
"Relax, Samiksha" His voice softened. "I came to check on you."
Her heart stuttered at that, her frustration faltering. He came just to check on her?
She blinked, suddenly feeling too many emotions at once. Before she could respond, another sharp cramp hit her, making her clutch her stomach and let out a small whimper.
Abeer instantly straightened. "Open the window."
She shook her head weakly. "No, you need toâ"
"Samiksha." His voice was firm but gentle. "Open it."
Something about the way he said it made her sigh in defeat. Giving him one last glare for good measure, she unlocked the latch and slid the window open.
And the second she did, Abeer wasted no time climbing inside.
She looked at her room, then at the stains on the bed and her pants, and immediately shut her eyes in embarrassment. Taking a deep breath, she mumbled hesitantly, "Abeer, can you please close your eyes? I don't wanna embarrass myself in front of you."
Abeer, who had already noticed her discomfort, stepped closer and softened his voice. "First of all, there's no need to be embarrassed, especially in front of me. And second, it's okayâjust go and change."
She bit her lip, her face heating up. "Butâ"
She pouted, knowing full well that if she turned around to go to the washroom, he'd see the stain on her back.
Abeer, quick to catch on, followed her gaze to the bed, understanding why she was hesitating. Without a word, he threw his hands up dramatically, spun around, and faced the other way. "There. Iâm not looking. Now go."
Samiksha let out a relieved sigh, hesitating for just a second before darting toward the washroom. Her heart thumped against her chest, not just because of the situation but because of himâhow effortlessly he understood her, how he made her feel at ease even in moments like these.
Abeer quickly pulled the bedsheet off the bed, knowing very well that she might not be able to clean it on her own. He gathered it up effortlessly and stood outside the washroom, waiting.
The moment the door clicked open, Samiksha stepped out, only to freeze as her eyes landed on the bedsheet in his hands. Her stomach droppedâshe knew what he was about to do.
Shaking her head immediately, she protested, "No."
Abeer raised an eyebrow, his lips curling up slightly. "Yes."
She took a step forward. "No."
He stepped closer. "Yes."
Before she could argue again, he moved swiftly, backing her up against the wall beside the washroom door. One hand pressed beside her head, caging her in. Her breath hitched as the air between them thickened, his warmth wrapping around her.
His voice dropped, firm yet impossibly gentle. "Samiksha, I'm going to clean it, okay?"
She wanted to fight itâreally, she did. But with him standing so close, his scent filling her senses, the weight of his gaze holding hers, she could only swallow hard and give a small nod.
A satisfied smirk played on his lips. "Good girl."
And with that, he pulled away, walking off with the bedsheet like it was the most normal thing in the world, while she stood there, heartbeat racing, feeling absolutely doomed.
Abeer adjusted the blanket he had spread on the balcony earlier and stepped back inside, rubbing his hands together. The room was dimly lit now, the soft glow of the evening casting warm shadows on the walls. Samiksha was still sitting on the bed, legs tucked under her, playing with the hem of her oversized T-shirt.
She looked up as he walked in, her eyes filled with hesitation. "You really didn't have to do all thatâŚ" she murmured.
Abeer scoffed, rolling his eyes dramatically. "Yeah, yeah, weâve established that I didnât have to. But I wanted to." He folded his arms and tilted his head at her. "Now, what else do you need, madam? Chocolate? Ice cream? Painkillers?"
She sighed, leaning her head back against the headboard. "Just want the cramps to go away."
Abeer clicked his tongue thoughtfully before taking slow, deliberate steps towards her bed. "Well⌠I could help with that."
She narrowed her eyes. "How?"
Instead of answering, he sat down on the edge of the bed, careful not to get too close. "Heat helps, right?"
She nodded suspiciously.
"Body heat works too." He gave her a small smirk before quickly adding, "I meanâjust hear me out. If you want, I could, um⌠y'know, just sit next to you. You can lean on me or whatever. Only if youâre comfortable."
Her face burned at his words. Abeer was confident about everythingâeverythingâexcept moments like these, where even he second-guessed himself. That tiny flicker of nervousness in his voice made her stomach twist in a way that had nothing to do with cramps.
She bit her lip, eyes darting away. "IâI donât knowâŚ"
He chuckled softly. "It's just a cuddle, Samiksha. Iâm not gonna bite you."
She groaned, covering her face. "Itâs embarrassingggg."
Abeer leaned a little closer, dropping his voice. "Whatâs embarrassing? That youâd rather be in pain than accept my very comfortable, very warm, and very boyfriend-worthy cuddles?"
Her lips twitched, but she refused to let him win that easily. "You sound way too confident about this."
"Because I am confident." He grinned. "Now, stop being a stubborn little gremlin and come here."
She peeked at him through her fingers before finally, finally relenting with a sigh. "Fine. But if you make fun of me even onceâ"
"Never," he promised instantly.
Hesitantly, she shifted closer, her movements slow and unsure. Abeer kept still, waiting, letting her take the lead. Finally, she rested her head against his shoulder, her body still tense.
He exhaled softly, resting his chin lightly on the top of her head. "See? Not so bad, right?"
She huffed but didnât move away. "Youâre warm."
He smirked. "Told you. Boyfriend material."
She poked his side weakly. "Shut up."
His arms stayed loose around her, not pushing, not rushing. Just there. Slowly, she let herself relax, her body molding slightly into his warmth.
Abeerâs voice was quieter this time. "Does it feel better?"
She nodded, closing her eyes. "YeahâŚ"
He smiled against her hair, holding her just a little closer. "Good."
